Turf Laying Guide

Good quality top soil to a minimum depth of 100mm (4"), ideally 150mm (6") should be turned over, and free from surface stone, other debris and perennial weeds. Blended Loam provides an ideal base for laying turf onto.
Digging over or rotavating the soil is important where the soil has become compacted.

Apply a pre-turfing fertiliser to promote early establishment of your new lawn. Rolawn's Premium Quality Spring and Autumn Lawn Foods can be used for this.

A square metre roll measures 610mm(24") x 1640mm(64.5")
Always push the turf into joint. Never stretch the turves by pulling them.
ny remaining cracks can be filled with a light soil ( Blended Loam is ideal) and tamped down.
do not lay turf in areas of heavy shade, or on top of an old lawn - it will not thrive.

Lightly firm dowm the turves to ensure good contact between the soil and the underside of each turf. The head of a rake held vertically and pressed against the turf is ideal. Never use a roller on freshly laid turf.

Turf must be rolled out within 24 hours (maximum) in the Autumn/Winter and 8 hours in Spring/Summer.
Start laying turves preferably along a straight side in a row, butting closely end to end. On subsequent rows stagger the joints in brickwork fashion.
Step 2
Step 3 Immediately after laying turf start watering. It is important to give the turf a really good soaking ensuring that the water has soaked through the turf into the underlying soil. The watering must be repeated until the turf has established, it is the single most important step you need to take to establish a beautifaul and long lasting lawn.

You may start mowing as early as seven days after laying if you can do so without disturbing the lawn. Aim to keep the grass at a height of about 25mm (1") remember the golden rule of no more than one third of the growth removed at a single cut.
Turf will accept light traffic immediately (walking) but wait some weeks before athletic activities.
